I agree. Almost every company that allows you to carry a balance on something or subscribe to something, has a way for you to electronically pay for it.

Why, you can even pay monthly bills right out of your paypal account. This way you do not have to give your bank account or credit card information a bunch of different companies, only one. This in itself should encourage more to make the switch from snail mail bills to electronic payment methods.

Why isn't email good enough? I think it is.

Anyway, for many things now we don't even NEED bills anymore. This is because we can simply pay the bill using an ATM at the beginning of the month.

That's a great idea. I live in Germany and subscribe to as much paperless things as I can : online-banking, bills...
Lots of people in my building have one of these "no ads please" sticker on the mailbox and instead subscribe to the online-newsletter.
Besides, the cashier will always ask you if you want to keep the receipt, to which 90% of the people will reply "no thanks".

Ray: The average age of an e-mail address is one year while the average street address is more than three years. Our street addresses are much more reliable in general.

You are among a small minority (7%) that does paperless billing. This is, in part, due to the fact that e-mail is the wrong tool for the job. Because you don't actually get your bills via e-mail. You get a notification that your bill is ready to view at the site of each and every company where you do business. This is because e-mail is not secure. With Zumbox, all of those bills can be delivered to you. It provides bank-level security.

The banks you do business with probably also send you marketing material on paper. With Zumbox, they could also send it paperless. Every company and organization that has your street address instead of your e-mail address can send you paperless mail via Zumbox and enable you to cease getting the paper version...which would be green. This includes local government. Important public notices and emergency notices can reach you immediately and electronically as opposed to being restricted by your physical mailbox. They can only do this because Zumbox is based entirely on street addresses.

I don't use e-mail for bills because my e-mail is unreliable and noisy for such an important and potentially costly piece of correspondence. I don't trust that an important bill notification won't get buried in the massive amount of non-spam e-mail that I get every day...let alone the spam.

And that's just the benefits of Zumbox as a mail utility. Stay tuned for the location-based apps that have nothing to do with mail and everything to do with your local universe.

Congrats on the new position, but I gotta say am I just missing something with Zumbox? I got an email account. Those companies that do paperless already allow me to send to that email. It is the place where I already check things. No need to update/change the address if I move. No getting things that are being sent to a former resident of the address. No need to maintain things in multiple places. This seems like a an unwanted complication to what is already available that really does next to nothing for being green.

Hey Rob - congrats on the new role, and I love the interview format. Also, it was great to see you tackle some of the value prop questions around zumbox.
