Max Gladwell to Present on Social Media at Opportunity Green Conference

November 2nd, 2008 by Max Gladwell · 4 Comments

Max Gladwell founder Rob Reed will participate in a presentation workshop at Opportunity Green 2008.

Max Gladwell has been invited to present at the Opportunity Green conference on November 8th and 9th at UCLA. We’re honored to be participating in a workshop-style panel with esteemed colleagues Michael Leifer of SWIRL, Ben Black of New Cycle Capital, and Ryan Scott of Causecast. Our workshop is on November 9th at 2:20pm PT.

Subject: This presentation workshop highlights and explains social media best practices with an emphasis on cause marketing, sustainability, and green investing. Just as the business landscape is being revolutionized through opportunities in green, the marketing landscape is being revolutionized through opportunities in social media. We’ll look at the use of blogs, social networks, video sharing, micromedia, online communities, and mobile technologies as the new agents of change for business, society, and the environment. We’ll demonstrate how they’re being applied in Banking (Shorebank), Micro-Finance (Kiva.org), Credit Cards (Advanta), VCs (New Cycle), and Social Enterprise (Ideablob). Given the financial crisis and future uncertainty, it’s more important than ever for companies to do more with less, to connect with their customers and potential customers, and to communicate more efficiently.

According to the organization, “Opportunity Green is a convergence of the prime movers & shakers and up & coming innovators driving today’s new green economy. We inspire a collaborative culture of new thinking and unconventional ideas that pushes change in unexpected ways. Join the best and brightest entrepreneurial business leaders for an exciting 2 day forum, focused on effectively integrating sustainability into your organization.”

Per Twitter best practices for attending and following live events, you’ll be able to participate using the Twitter tag #OG08 (which means you add that to any Tweet about the event). You can monitor this tag using Twitter Search. We’ll be using it throughout the event, especially on Sunday during our presentation. We’ll have this page projected onto a screen so both the immediate and virtual audiences can participate.

Additionally, we’re planning to broadcast the panel live on the Max Gladwell Ustream.tv channel, which features live chat. We did a screencast how-to on using Ustream for TreeHugger. This will also be projected on the screen so the audience can experience how this free, interactive video streaming tool works.

We’re very much looking forward to presenting and attending. Opportunity Green is bringing together a fantastic lineup of thought leaders in sustainability, corporate social responsibility, and social enterprise. We’re honored to be a part of it. If you’re a blogger, feel free to spread the message. If you can’t attend in person, we hope that you’ll be able to participate online because we’ll have some exciting topics to discuss. Again, it’s November 9th at 2:20pm PT.

Looking forward to it. I can’t make it in person, but I’ll be tuning in.

This is great – I will definitely be tuning in from the east coat.

You dwell on the status quo, and fret about its nuances! Break Free! Astounding changes, as dramatic as the great depression that befalls us as we speak, are about to unfold in our lives! We will get off of oil! This paradigm shift alone will prove too traumatic for some! We will go Solar! We will use Wind! Our womenfolk will no longer die from benzine molecule poisoning, or “breast cancer” as you have been coerced to say! We will no longer suffer annual car model changes for the sake of change, but will see rapid improvements in Compressed Natural Gas, hybrid/electric plug in, Ultralight carbon fiber and polymer composite bodied commuter cars! They will come from Toyota, and like the Prius, serve us well. Your Chev will never go out of style again, GM is out of business! They simply didn’t change fast enough and Toyota and Honda ate them alive along with Ford and Chrysler. Housing is seeing change – People are seeking out “Zero upkeep, Zero running cost” technologically designed recession-proof survival dwellings! Not shabby eco-shacks! Well designed passive and active solar powered, ground heated, super-insulated, water conserving, greenhouse inclusive stylish dwellings that make sense – not advertising promoted McMansions for Barbie-Doll sex object women, but realistic dwellings for American couples! We will use trains and buses for distance transport, and commuter cars to get from stations to homes! In ten years, you will not recognize America or the world – we are at the beginning steps of the computer driven age of intelligent design! Our age of educated, enlightened capabilities and nothing can stop us now!
