i think alternatives for energy source other than oil will lead to loss of biodiversity as we opt for biofuel for example use of cereals and legumes to produce fuel.

I agree with the post and the above comment that it could be difficult to continue the green movement with the economic crises and afterwards.

The best way to continue the green movement is for infrastructure to start to change. The more investment in green buildings, cars (and places for cars to either charge up or whatever the alternative energy source may be), increase in recycling bins/systems. If the infrastructure is put into place, it will be harder to escape movement towards a more sustainable society.

Of course, with change in infrastructure, comes a lot of investment, and will the government or businesses put money into that right now? They say they will, and it has started. We need to spread awareness so that this continues.

Thank you for the great post!

I'd agree that the current economic crisis is helping people think more about the environment and sustainability. My problem is that there is little indication that these changes in behaviors will last past the economic crisis. What is to prevent people from going back to their old ways once the economy recovers?

You might want to take a look at posts by NRDC bloggers David Goldstein and Andy Stevenson. Goldstein's a MacArthur fellow and prime mover behind the establishment of appliance efficiency standards; Stevenson's a former hedge-fund manager. Both have had great commentary on the synchronicity between moving to a cleantech- and clean energy driven economy and recovery from the current recession.
