Obama: Best Economist Cover Ever

October 31st, 2008 by Max Gladwell · 8 Comments

It’s time for Obama.

“In terms of painting a brighter future for America and the world, Mr Obama has produced the more compelling and detailed portrait. He has campaigned with more style, intelligence and discipline than his opponent. Mr Obama deserves the presidency.”

That is a great cover. That is what Rafiki from Lion King said when it was Simba’s turn to step up and become king, except he said, “It Is Time.”

And what do the Lion King and Obama have in common?

It’s all Show Bizness, baby! :)

Mr. Obama has indeed painted a nice portrait of what he would like America to be. And if we were voting for best artist, I would choose him over McCain in a nanosecond.

Or if we were voting for most disciplined campaigner.

Or guy who looks best on covers of magazines and can sell Economists.

But we’re *supposed* to vote based on accomplishments, facts, experience, records, promises kept, what people actually do, not just what they say they’ll do.

On those grounds, the choice is not as clear cut.

@Aaron – Um, actually the primary difference is that one is a real person, the other is an animated cartoon character.

with that argument, the choice is pretty clear cut. a 72 y.o. with 2 cases of skin cancer chose a relatively inexperienced person as his #2. that does not show “promises kept”.. he promised he would just someone with much more experience an savvy.. he did not do. promise not kept.

what happens when a bunch of self-proclaimed mavericks try to screw in a lightbulb?

I saw this cover on the newsstand and melted. This is like porn for me.

Isn’t media supposed to be unbiased? They practically handed him the election!

It’s amusing to read this now, half a year later. What do you all think of Obama the Messiah now?

Yep, he’s as experienced a liar, back peddler, and thief as the rest of them.

We changed from a wannabe dictator and “Decider” to a wannabe Marxist and chronic liar.

Aristotle was right. Government always attracts the highest class thieves and cutthroats.
