This is a nice analysis that avoids the alarmist "print is dead" rubric with a great focus on what's broken in journalism that I haven't seen intelligently discussed - fundamentals are fundamentals. Thanks for the post.

Sommer: It's an interesting question with no clear answer. For the purpose of this post, we mean "journalists" as those working in traditional print and broadcast media. We used to write for print magazines. We also wrote a book and considered that journalism, though we never studied it in college. Now that we're not working in traditional media, we don't consider this journalism. It might be. That's just not how we see it.

Great stuff! Thanks for this blog writing primer. Sometimes I get so caught up in SEO and links that I forget how to just... write.

Great article and as always, well written. I think of this often seeing that I am not a journalist. I have friends that are but they went to school for it. But if I'm a mommy blogger am I a journalist of sorts? Where is there a divide or isn't there?
