The Universal Message and Animation of 350.org

July 28th, 2008 by Max Gladwell · 1 Comment

How the global warming message can be universally understood and acted upon.

The message of 350.org is as clear and simple as it can be: 350 parts per million (ppm) of atmospheric carbon dioxide is the threshold and the goal. “350 is the red line for human beings, the most important number on the planet. The most recent science tells us that unless we can reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere to 350 parts per million, we will cause huge and irreversible damage to the earth.”

According to an article written today by Scott Badenoch in ecoTimes, this “is based on the research of leading climatologist Jim Hansen of NASA, who states that the only way life on this planet can remain similar to what we know now is if there are no more than 350 parts per million of CO2 in our atmosphere. News flash: The Earth’s atmosphere currently has 385 parts per million of CO2″

But these words do you little good if you don’t understand English. So watch this…

This was produced by Free Range Studios, which also produced The Story of Stuff. It’s brilliant and inspiring work.
