Popular tech blog, ReadWriteWeb, discovers the nexus of social media and green living

We’re detecting a powerful trend, one that inspired us to launch Max Gladwell and jump feet first into it. ReadWriteWeb posts today about “How to Use Social Media for Social Good”. The author, Sarah Perez, is clearly tracking some of the same buzz sources. The post includes Jeremiah Owyang’s plea for support of The Red Cross in China, Jessica Biel’s new Make The Difference Network, social networking widgets such as Causes, and the recent Online Spin column, Social Media for Social Good.

Perez uses yesterday’s so-called Twit-Out as an entry point to the topic. This was a makeshift boycott by the tech community in protest of Twitter’s daily outages. She says,

Instead of watching Twitter’s ups and downs, we the members of the tech community could be using our social media super-powers to make a real difference in the world. We know how to spread news fast, share images and videos, organize our friends, and empower others all by using the same social media tools that we use in our every day lives. Isn’t it time we put them to use towards a good cause? Below are some great examples as to how that can be done.

It’s inspiring to see this topic and our fundamental raison d’être getting so much attention. We have posts and ideas stacked 50 deep, as there is much to cover in this burgeoning niche we call the nexus of social media and green living. Please feel free to comment below if you’re on board.
