New community site provides a forum for green judgment
Am I Green or Not? You decide. If you recall the popular “Hot or Not” rating site from earlier in the decade, this new online community takes a similar approach in the green space. You can create a profile for yourself or for any person, group, or business. It is a forum for both praise and shame. Indeed, an entire menu item is dedicated to the “Hall of Shame” with Rush Limbaugh topping th list. On the celebrity side, greenies like Ed Begley Jr. and Leo DiCaprio have risen to the top in early voting.
According to the company, “AmiGreenOrNot was created to empower the green movement at the individual level. Inspired by overwhelming evidence of global warming, a deep respect for our planet’s increasingly fragile ecosystem, and a commitment to promoting environmentally friendly lifestyles, we strive to build an online community to increase awareness, share ideas, and to collectively gain a richer understanding of what it really means to be ‘GREEN.’”
We’re not entirely sure how much good this site will accomplish. It seems rather vacant, unless this is your sort of thing. All of the early profiles are obvious and even cliche. If they succeed in attracting a diverse community, it may actual provide some limited value. But its superficial nature will probably prohibit it from becoming a way to encourage green living or else to police greenwashing and polluting.
What are your thoughts?
