Two top social media bloggers rally support for the Red Cross in this time of multiple, catastrophic disasters
We keep informed about the social Web and related trends through two top blogger personalities: Jeremiah Owyang of Web Strategist and Robert Scoble of Scobleizer. Yesterday, Owyang posted that he Dontated to the Red Cross (and others are too).
I realize that this is completely off topic from the Web Strategy blog, but I’ve a loud voice, and there’s many well to do readers of this blog, so this is one of the best ways I can apply my resources.
There’s quite a few disasters happening all over the world, but esp in Asia, a devastating cyclone in a country not equipped nor prepared with an estimated 62,000 people are dead or missing but the U.N. has suggested the death toll is likely to be more than 100,000, and a 3 minute long earthquake in China claiming 10,000 12,000 lives.
I donated some money, although not enough to turn the tide. I’m curious, what are you doing out there? Leave links to organizations that are helping, in particular those that are using the internet to do good.
You can start by donating to the American Red Cross, or World Vision.
Owyang then prompted Scoble to Twitter his 22,000+ followers, since he’d already alerted us to the fact that the earliest reports of the China quake had come through Twitter. Since then, Owyang has updated the post several times to reflect the developments of both the quake fallout and the spreading of his post. “I feel a snowball effect happening,” he says. Indeed, that is the power of the social Web…or, as his colleagues would call it, the power of the groundswell.
Feel free to post links in the comments to other relief organizations that need help.
