A Reminder Not to Take Ourselves Too Seriously

April 23rd, 2008 by Max Gladwell · No Comments

Some comic relief in the face of serious issues…and a shout out to those who help us cope by way of laughter and satire.

Caution: Adult language below

Yes, the issues are serious. But we can have a sense of humor and not take ourselves too seriously…as TreeHugger and others of our ilk tend to do. The best examples of this point are The Daily Show and The Colbert Report, perhaps, the best things to ever happen to political discourse. If it weren’t for them, I probably would have gone completely insane over the past seven years.

The Daily Show echoes how you really feel in a satirical forum that makes you laugh out loud. The Colbert Report satirizes those who otherwise drive you crazy, which is why you need The Daily Show in the first place. We can’t lose our sense of humor no matter how torturous mainstream news, politicians, corporate greed, and special interests can be. Do the good work, but try not to miss a good joke and the chance to laugh, and certainly don’t hesitate to laugh at yourself.
